The annual annotated catalogues of book publications of the NAS of Ukraine have presented the book descriptions since 2004. Over the past twenty-one years, the annotated catalogue of book publications has changed significantly; in particular, its rubric has been regularly improved according to changes in the research areas of scientists. The structure and form of book descriptions\u2019 presentation have also been modernised gradually. Today, many publications have a digital object identifier, the DOI code, and the number of publications issued in electronic form in parallel with a limited edition version or only as an electronic edition has increased by one third. And the number of such publications is growing gradually. The reason for this is not only the desire to publish research results as soon as possible and provide access to them to the widest possible range of potential readers, but also the European Open Access Initiative and the movement towards Open Science. However, we should also take into account the desire of researchers to save money on printing services due to limited funding.<\/p>\n

The growing level of international scientific cooperation, in particular as a result of geosocial restrictions and forced migration caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the full-scale Russian invasion, has led to an increase in the number of scientific publications by Ukrainian scientists abroad. The share of such publications has been steadily increasing in recent years, while the annual total number of book publications of the Academy has been decreasing.<\/p>\n

The active involvement of the NAS of Ukraine in analysing and resolving many issues related to the hybrid Russian-Ukrainian war and its full-scale phase, as well as modelling possible post-war reconstruction, and the recent publication of the results of relevant research in all scientific fields \u2014 from mathematics to literature \u2014 prompted the creation of a new section in the catalogue, National Security and Defence, which includes 16 publications in 2024. In addition, many sections of the 2022\u20142023 catalogues (\u201cEconomics,\u201d \u201cEnergy,\u201d \u201cHistory,\u201d \u201cMaterials Science,\u201d etc.) contain a significant number of publications focused on the fight against Russian armed aggression and the preservation of Ukraine\u2019s sovereignty. In addition, the catalogues of recent years do not contain publications issued by Russian publishers or in Russian on the territory of Ukraine.<\/p>\n

The orientation of book publications by type of publication has also changed significantly. The number of popular science and educational publications has increased \u2014 textbooks, manuals, guidelines, etc., published either by academics for undergraduate and postgraduate students of higher education institutions or in cooperation with these educational institutions.<\/p>\n

The annotated catalogue of book publications of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine is traditionally compiled based on annual reports of scientific institutions of the NAS of Ukraine and advance copies of publications submitted to the Scientific and Publishing Council of the NAS of Ukraine by academic institutions. The catalogue includes bibliographic descriptions of book publications published during 2024 \u2014 scientific monographs, non-periodical collections of scientific works, dictionaries, reference books, encyclopaedias, and popular science books.<\/p>\n

The catalogue contains bibliographic descriptions of 865 books, followed by annotations in the original language. The catalogue also has annotations in the state language for publications published in English.<\/p>\n

The descriptions are grouped into 30 thematic sections. The biggest sections of the catalogue are History (110 titles), Biology (81), and Economics (64). The other sections contain from three (Astronomy) to 53 (Literature) titles.<\/p>\n

At the end of the catalogue, there are two auxiliary indexes: one of the institutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, which publications are available in the catalogue, with the serial numbers of these book editions (145); the other of institutions that do not belong to the structure of the Academy but participate in the preparation and publication of printed works together with its institutions (202).<\/p>\n

The electronic version of the annotated catalogue for 2024, as well as the previous catalogues for 2004-2023, is available on the website of the Scientific and Publishing Council of the NAS of Ukraine: https:\/\/nvd-nanu.org.ua\/category\/books\/<\/a><\/p>\n

The annotated catalogue of book publications of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine for 2025 is being updated on the same portal via statutory advance copies of publications by institutions to the Scientific and Publishing Council of the NAS of Ukraine.<\/p>\n

One can also find information about books from the publishing projects of the NAS of Ukraine and full texts of many of them on the specialised English-language website \u201cBooks of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine,\u201d<\/a> as well as on the website of the \u201cAcademperiodyka\u201d<\/a> Publishing House of the NAS of Ukraine, and the Subscription Agency \u201cUkrinformnauka.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

The annotated catalogue was prepared by \u201cAkademperiodyka\u201d Publishing House of the NAS of Ukraine as part of the research work on the topic \u201cPublishing Activity of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine under the Condition of Changes in the International Publishing of Scientific Literature\u201d (state registration number 0122U000065).<\/p>\n
