This richly illustrated popular science book provides a concise overview of the current knowledge about Antarctica \u2014 its geography, geology, flora, and fauna. Considerable attention is paid to the history of research on the continent and the role of Ukrainians in this research, as well as to issues of nature conservation on this remarkable continent, particularly international conventions and the principles of Antarctic land preservation. The book focuses on the Argentine Islands region \u2014 the Kyiv Peninsula, where the Ukrainian Antarctic station \u2018Academician Vernadsky\u2019 is located.
