This book is dedicated to the memory of a prominent molecular biologist Academician Gennady Matsuka. It includes selected memoirs of colleagues, students, friends, and family. Like any boy who grew up by the sea, he dreamt to be a captain but was not admitted to the naval school. However, Gennady Matsuka became a captain as the first director of the newly established Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics of the NASU. For 30 years he navigated his ship through numerous storms and hardships.
